The Future of Books: Digital Enhancements
The Library of America will release a two-volume set called “American Science Fiction: Nine Classic Novels of the 1950s” on 27 Sept this year with an online companion becoming available next week at <www.loa.org/sciencefiction>.
The novels (an excellent selection!) are “The Space Merchants” by Frederik Pohl and C. M. Kornbluth, “More than Human” by Theodore Sturgeon, “The Big Time” by Fritz Leiber, “The Long Tomorrow” by Leigh Brackett, “Double Star” by Robert A. Heinlein, “The Stars My Destination” by Alfred Bester, “A Case of Conscience” by James Blish, “Who?” by Algis Budrys and “The Shrinking Man” by Richard Matheson.
Digital enhancements include original book covers from the 1950s, film and radio adaptations, stories (like the “Change War” short stories of Fritz Leiber) and appreciations by writers like Neil Gaiman, William Gibson, Connie Willis and others.
